Roberta DuTeil
Mrs. Roberta DuTeil, affectionately known as Tutu. At 102 years old, born and raised in Alabama, Tutu served as a decoding officer in the Navy during WWII. After the war, Tutu and her husband moved to Hawaii to serve as Christian missionaries. They started small, helping one person at a time, and eventually founded the very rehabilitation center I had volunteered at in 2016—the Institute for Human Services. Sitting down with Tutu in Dallas, she recounted tales from her youth in Alabama, college days, marriage, her invaluable service to the United States, and many more.
